Health Insurance

Seven paths to the right coverage

Not sure which fits? I'll walk you through every option so you choose with confidence.

Marketplace plans

Affordable Care Act (ACA)

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) — also called Obamacare — is the federal health care law that created the Health Insurance Marketplace. It offers subsidized major-medical plans that cover essential health benefits and cannot deny you for pre-existing conditions. Most applicants qualify for premium tax credits that can dramatically lower monthly costs — often to $0 or near-zero.

  • Essential health benefits
  • Premium tax credits
  • No pre-existing condition exclusions
  • Open & special enrollment

Requirements: Income is required to qualify for subsidies, and you must have lawful legal status in the United States.

Off-marketplace

Private Health Insurance

Plans purchased directly from top carriers outside the ACA Marketplace. Flexible networks, short-term options, and coverage tailored to your budget and care preferences. For many private plans, legal status in the United States is not required.

  • Major carriers
  • Short-term & catastrophic
  • PPO / HMO / EPO options
  • Year-round enrollment

Requirements: Legal status is not required by some companies — ask about your options. Pre-existing medical conditions are not covered by some plans.

Christian sharing ministries

Faith-Based Health Sharing

A community-driven alternative to traditional insurance where members share each other's medical costs based on shared religious beliefs and biblical principles. Because these are ministries and not insurance, legal status in the United States is generally not required.

  • Lower monthly share amounts
  • Like-minded community
  • No ACA mandate constraints
  • Eligibility guidelines apply

Requirements: Legal status is not required for most programs. There is a 24-month waiting period for pre-existing medical conditions.

Employer-sponsored plans

Group Health Insurance

Group health insurance is coverage offered through an employer or organization to its employees and often their families. Employers typically share the cost of premiums, making it more affordable than individual plans, and it covers essential health benefits with no medical underwriting. It's ideal for small businesses, nonprofits, and associations that want to attract and retain talent while protecting their team.

  • Employer shares premium cost
  • Covers employees & families
  • No medical underwriting
  • Tax advantages for businesses

Requirements: Generally requires at least 1 W-2 employee (owner-only businesses may qualify in some states). I shop your group census across several top carriers to find the best fit and rates.

Age 65+ & certain disabilities

Medicare

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people 65 and older and some younger people with disabilities. It includes Original Medicare (Parts A & B), Medicare Advantage (Part C), Medicare Supplemental (Medigap), and Prescription Drug coverage (Part D). I'll explain the differences and help you choose the right combination — at no cost to you.

  • Original Medicare (Parts A & B)
  • Medicare Advantage (Part C)
  • Supplements (Medigap) & Part D
  • Free, no-pressure guidance

Requirements: Generally available to U.S. citizens or legal residents age 65+, or younger people with qualifying disabilities. Book a free consultation and I'll walk you through every option.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options. Not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. government or the federal Medicare program. We represent Medicare Advantage organizations and standalone PDP prescription drug plans that have a Medicare contract. Enrollment depends on the plan's contract renewal. Calling (407) 815-0820 will connect you to a licensed sales agent. TTY: 711.

Visitors to the U.S. & travel abroad

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance protects visitors coming to the United States and Americans traveling abroad. It covers emergency medical care, hospital stays, medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and lost baggage — so an unexpected illness or delay far from home doesn't become a financial crisis. Plans are available for a single trip or a full year of travel.

  • Emergency medical & hospital care
  • Medical evacuation & repatriation
  • Trip cancellation & lost baggage
  • Single-trip or annual plans

Requirements: No U.S. legal status or citizenship is required — ideal for visitors, immigrants, students, and tourists coming to the United States, as well as U.S. residents traveling internationally. You can enroll before or after arrival in most cases.

Government health coverage

Medicaid

Medicaid is a joint federal and state government program that provides free or low-cost health coverage to eligible individuals and families with limited income. It covers doctor visits, hospital stays, prescriptions, preventive care, and more — and for those who qualify, there is little to no monthly cost.

  • Free or low-cost coverage
  • Doctor visits & hospital care
  • Prescriptions & preventive care
  • Children & family coverage

Requirements: Eligibility is based mainly on household income, family size, and lawful legal status in the United States. Many states have expanded Medicaid to cover more adults. I can help you check if you qualify and walk you through enrollment at no cost.

Find your fit

Which coverage is right for you?

Not sure whether the ACA, private insurance, or faith-based health sharing fits your situation? This honest guide breaks down who each option is recommended for — and who should consider something else. Still unsure? Book a free consultation and I'll help you decide.

Marketplace plans

ACA — Affordable Care Act

Recommended for

  • You have lawful legal status in the United States
  • Your income qualifies you for premium tax credits (subsidies)
  • You have pre-existing conditions (no exclusions allowed)
  • You want comprehensive essential health benefits
  • You want guaranteed-issue coverage that can't drop you
  • You qualify for cost-sharing reductions (lower incomes)

Not recommended for

  • You do not have lawful legal status in the US
  • Your income is too high for subsidies and you want lower premiums
  • You missed open enrollment and have no qualifying life event
  • You're 65+ (Medicare is your path)
  • You can't accurately predict your income — if you earn more than you stated, you must pay back the excess subsidy (premium tax credits) at tax season
Off-marketplace plans

Private Health — Enrollment First / SelectMed

Recommended for

  • Legal status is not required for some plans
  • You want year-round enrollment (not tied to ACA open enrollment)
  • You want guaranteed acceptance with no pre-existing exclusions
  • You want deductibles as low as $0
  • You want nationwide PPO network access
  • You're interested in GLP-1 weight-management benefits
  • You're self-employed, a gig worker, or a small business owner
  • You want to avoid ACA subsidy clawback risk — no premium tax credits to repay at tax season even if your income ends up higher than expected

Not recommended for

  • You live in AK, HI, MA, NH, NY, SD, WA, or PR (SelectMed not available there)
  • You qualify for large ACA subsidies (ACA may cost less)
  • You want the full essential-health-benefit protections of the ACA
  • You're 65+ (Medicare is your path)
Health sharing ministry

Faith-Based — Zion HealthShare

Recommended for

  • You're under 65 and generally healthy
  • Legal status is not required
  • You want lower monthly contributions than traditional insurance
  • You don't qualify for ACA subsidies and want an affordable alternative
  • You align with biblical principles of bearing one another's burdens
  • You're comfortable as a self-pay patient negotiating cash rates
  • You want no network restrictions (see any provider)
  • You want to avoid ACA subsidy clawback risk — no premium tax credits to repay at tax season even if your income ends up higher than expected

Not recommended for

  • You're 65 or older (membership ends at 65 — use Medicare)
  • You have significant pre-existing conditions needing ongoing care (24-month waiting period, then phased in over 4 years up to $125k/yr)
  • You live in Washington state (not available)
  • You need maternity coverage in your first 6 months of membership
  • You want guaranteed payment of medical bills (it is not insurance)
  • You want the ACA's essential health benefit protections
  • You're a heavy user of medical care needing predictable, guaranteed coverage

This is general guidance, not a recommendation. Your actual eligibility and costs depend on your income, state, health, and the plan you choose.
